Resentment

It took almost nineteen years between issues 2 & 3. So, what happened? Life. The normal ups and downs of the cycle refocused priorities to the point that the Helix dropped off the radar. So why now? Things have changed. Times opened a bit and I find that I have drifted from some core beliefs that were once a central part of my life. Now is as good a time as any to concentrate on what works and try to eliminate what does not.

Normally my motivation for a letter comes from a positive experience. Or at least something neutral. Today, however, I write as an exercise, to head off my number one offender: resentment. Someone once told me that having a resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. A main source of resentment for me is needing to be right. Have you ever been posed the question:

Would you rather be happy, or right?

I AM right. Really. And it is my responsibility to make sure you know it. Wouldn’t you want to be set straight about your wrongness? And then there are the times that I am SO right, it should be proclaimed throughout the known universe. I must remember that my need to be right is an inverse relationship with my happiness. I must remember to let go of that need to experience a happier existence.

I believe the phrase is surrender to win. Letting go of the need to be right leads to fewer resentments and pays off in happiness dividends big time.
